Treating Impetigo at Home

Impetigo is a very common skin condition which usually affects toddlers and children in their growing phase. The infection spreads across people via direct contact with an infected person or via the usage of mutual objects with the infected person. Impetigo is caused by special bacteria called Staphylococcus.

The cardinal features involve the appearance of raised, swollen and itchy sores. The sores soon transform into painful blisters. Most cases of impetigo occur near the areas of mouth and nose. Although, these are treatable via the usage of antibiotics, here are some techniques by which you can treat your child’s impetigo right at home!

1. Use a Garlic Rub!

Garlic has been proven to provide protection against many diseases of viral, bacterial and fungal causes. Garlic contains the adequate contents needed to disassemble the Staphylococcus bacteria.

You can cut the garlic into small pieces. After this, make a thick paste out of the garlic cloves. After making the paste, apply it on the sores caused by the impetigo infection. The reaction between the sores and the garlic cloves can be extremely painful and hence should be applied with care. Garlic can also be incorporated in your daily diet.

2. Treat Yourself to a Ginger Potion!

Ginger is a special root vegetable having high medical importance. It can be used to ward off many bacterial and microbial agents causing skin diseases. The best way to apply ginger on to your skin is by preparing a juice! The juice can be applied topically directly on to the sores and blisters of impetigo! Like Garlic, the application of ginger might sting a bit!

3. Smother the sore with Eucalyptus!

Eucalyptus holds an extremely important place in treating any type of skin condition! From a simple rash to conditions like eczema, Eucalyptus can be used to treat all skin diseases. Eucalyptus oil has special antagonistic activities against the Staphylococcus bacteria.

Eucalyptus oil is to be used on the skin! Special care should be taken to not ingest the oil. The oil contains toxic constituents which may be detrimental to the body!

Always make sure that you dilute the oil before its application on to the skin.

4. Use a Honey Mask!

Honey is often considered to be the sweetest natural substance found on earth! Although it is a delicacy for most people, it has high medicinal properties associated with it too. Honey provides a potent anti-microbial effect for various skin conditions like impetigo.

The two main types of honey that are being used by most people to treat Impetigo include Manuka honey and raw honey.

Always rinse the affected areas with warm water after application of honey

5. Use Turmeric

Since ancient times, Turmeric has held a lot of medicinal value for humans. It provides an immediate anti-inflammatory effect along with anti-microbial effect. The best way to apply turmeric on the skin includes the formation of a paste of turmeric with water. 

The paste can be applied to all the affected areas. Make sure that you rinse the affected areas after a period of 20 minutes after the application of the turmeric paste!

Here are some points which would provide immediate relief from the painful blisters caused by the notorious Staphylococcus bacteria!
