Home Remedies to Treat Diaper Rash

Do not panic in case you see a rash on the buttocks of your little newborn child. You have come to the right place to find the remedy for the same! I am sure that parenting is a tough task. Parents usually tend to be overprotective and very cautious with their children at a young age. This is the age where most infections are potent. A child within the age of 0 to 3 year should be taken care of adequately.

What is a Diaper Rash?

A diaper rash is a common skin condition occurring in newborn children and babies who wear diapers in day to day life. This is not an indication of your baby being sick or unhealthy. It is just a common reaction to the synthetic material of the diaper.

These are mainly characterized by red spots and scratches on the buttocks, in the genital areas and the areas which are covered entirely by the diapers.

Although these diaper rashes are a common condition, here are some homemade tips to provide some relief to your baby from the itchy rash.

1. Give Your Baby a Vinegar Cleanse

Urine is pre-dominantly alkaline in nature. This is due to the proteins excreted in high amounts in urine. We can use this property of urine to save the babies from the itchy diaper rash.

It is common knowledge that vinegar is an acidic compound. The acidity of the vinegar cancels out the alkalinity of the urine. Hence, every time your baby urinates into the diapers, neutralization of both the substances occur. This renders the urine as neutral. Neutral urine is considered to have the same effect as water.

2. Use Petroleum Jelly

Regular feces and urine are the main cause of diaper rashes. The friction generated by the fecal matter and the diaper along with the skin results in the formation of a rash. This friction can be reduced by using petroleum jelly.

Petroleum jelly (e.g. Vaseline) can be used effectively. While changing the diaper of the baby, make sure that it is adequately clean and dry. Apply a thin coat of petroleum jelly on to the genital areas. Regular application of petroleum jelly results in a rash-free baby!

3. Hydrate with Aloe Vera!

Aloe Vera has been used for centuries against rashes. Aloe Vera presents a cooling and moisturizing effect on the skin. The rash is usually followed by an area of inflamed skin. The rash turns red and is extremely itchy. Aloe Vera can be used to deal with this. It offers an extremely soothing effect on the affected area. You can extract the gel from the pulpy leaves of the plant directly or you can buy a ready-made gel from the market.

4. Using Yogurt

Yogurt contains various micro-organisms which are effective in the removal of rashes. Also, yogurt is used to make the skin soft and moisturized. It can be used to treat all kinds of rashes. A thick layer of the yogurt on the affected area can be used to remove the rash in question.

Make sure you wipe your baby’s diaper-clad areas always before and after the application of these substances for an effective treatment!
