Do You Know That Anxiety Can Be Dangerous?

Anxiety can be defined as a regularly occurring emotion that affects the majority of people. It is normal and is experienced by all at some point. It is a condition in which individuals think that they are in danger, but it may just be a result of overthinking. It requires treatment as it may start to worsen with time.  Anxiety can come in many forms; it can be accompanied by panic attacks, unwanted thoughts, uncontrolled behavior, and an extreme feeling of fear.

Symptoms of anxiety

Anxiety is defined by behavioral, psychological, and subjective characteristics. The feeling of dread accompanies it along with many psychological reactions such as irregular heartbeat, increased blood pressure, sweating, and trembling. Some other symptoms of anxiety include

  • Obsessive thoughts
  • Irritability
  • Extreme tiredness
  • Difficulty with concentrations
  • Trouble falling asleep

1. Panic disorder

Panic disorders are characterized as sudden panic attacks with a feeling of terror. These are sudden and repeated attacks that come with a fear of disaster or of losing control even when there is no real danger and the attack can stay for several minutes or longer.

During these attacks, people might experience nausea, chest pain, stomach upset, irregular heartbeat and the feeling of numb and tingling in the hands.  

2. Phobia

Phobia is an extreme case of anxiety or fear which gets triggered by a particular situation or an object. Phobias throw a significant impact on how you live your life and in serious conditions even thinking about a particular object or situation can trigger the symptoms of phobia.

People suffering from a phobia can experience symptoms such as smothering sensations, shaking, shortness of breath, numbness, sweating, nausea, and vomiting. Phobias can make a person stressed and causes a feeling of embarrassment.

3. Obsessive-compulsive disorder

Obsessive compulsive disorder is a chronic disorder in which a person experiences unwanted and uncontrolled thoughts that repeatedly appears in their mind and it also involves repetitive actions to relieve the anxiety from the thoughts.

For example, constantly worrying about germs or dirt and repeatedly washing hands to get rid of the worry. People who suffer from obsessive-compulsive disorder often find these thoughts interfering in their regular activities. Repeated actions also lead to the wastage of their time and affect them adversely.

4. Post traumatic stress disorder

Post traumatic stress disorder is a condition that people experiences after any shocking or scary event. Most people recover from any such traumatic event but some people experience serious distress and anxiety for many months or for years.

It is characterized by emotional numbness and avoiding those things that make them reminded of an event. It affects the concentration and sleeping habits of a person and can cause insomnia. Post-traumatic stress disorder is said to be a case of extreme anxiety and it is associated with the major risk factors.

Ways to cope with anxiety disorders

It is important to seek some immediate help and cope up with the anxiety as the severe forms of anxiety is linked with major risk complications. Medical treatment varies from person to person as it depends on the severity of a condition and the type of anxiety disorder. But practicing good self care can work effectively in coping with anxiety.

1. Exercise

Exercise has been shown to improve the symptoms of anxiety and is considered a useful treatment for anxiety. Numerous studies suggest that exercise represents an affordable, promising, and easily accessible treatment option for individuals with anxiety.  

2. Eat healthy food

Healthy eating is important for both physical and mental health. Foods that are rich in nutrients are known to have mood-enhancing properties and work effectively in improving the symptoms of distress and depression. Nutrients like zinc, folic acid, magnesium, vitamin C, and Vitamin B have been found to improve mood by their role in the synthesis of neurotransmitters. These nutrients can be obtained from food items such as pumpkin seeds, cabbage, spinach, broccoli, beans, etc.

3. Take good sleep

It is noted that anxiety is often linked to insomnia or difficulties with sleeping but taking rest and sleep and important to treat anxiety. Sleep plays an important role in the well-being of a person and sleep deprivation can worsen the condition of a person who is suffering from anxiety. Sleep reduces the symptoms of anxiety and helps in fast recovery.
