Pregnancy comes with its own set of ups and downs. As a mother, you don’t have any option other than dealing with the downs and enjoying the ups. One of the common problems that come with pregnancy is ‘morning sickness.
While it is completely natural during the first trimester, it is extremely uncomfortable for the to-be-mothers. Approximately 70 per cent of women experience nausea early in pregnancy and about 50 per cent experience vomiting.
Lots of people are sick all day, some are sick mostly in the evening, and others are sick if they haven’t gotten enough sleep.
Morning sickness can start as early as six weeks into pregnancy and tends to peak around the eighth and ninth weeks.
Now the question arises, how to cure morning sickness? Are there any home remedies to treat this problem? Read on to know the same!
1. Take a rest
You need to understand that the body is working extra to develop the baby and is not used to it considering the first trimester.
So, it is a wise decision to give as much as possible rest to your body and try not to stress about work and pregnancy.
If you feel a sudden sense of drowsiness in the morning, consider taking a sick leave and going back to bed. You can also plan for a mini-vacation during this period.
2. Find food that works for your body
Your body becomes extra sensitive when you are raising a baby inside you.
Keep a record of food items that make you sick and what don’t. Though there’s no hard-and-fast rule about which foods work best for all morning sick mamas-to-be, many women find that it’s easier to keep down certain types of food.
Bland, carb-rich snacks like crackers, dry cereal, and pretzels have seen many preggo gals through morning sickness, as have ice-cold treats like watermelon and Popsicles.
Fatty and spicy foods may upset iffy stomachs, but if you find that they work for you, by all means, go ahead and eat ’em.
3. Use Ginger
Ginger has long been touted as a stomach soother, and studies have shown that it may help quell queasiness. Try adding a thin slice of ginger to hot water or tea, or sipping flat ginger ale.
Doesn’t that sound appetizing? Look for drinks made with real ginger or try grating fresh ginger into hot tea. Gingersnap cookies and ginger candies can also help.
Snack on a handful of crystallized ginger candy, nosh on gingersnaps or gingerbread, or find your own tasty way to soup up the root.
4. Be open to the unusual
Since your body is going through a number of changes, you better prepare yourself for all the strange things that you are going to witness during these 40 weeks.
Weird changes in sleeping patterns and eating preferences are pretty common during pregnancy.
Also, be open to discovering things that help you to recover from nausea; it can be a drink you never liked or a particular scent.
5. Over-the-counter options
There are a number of prescription and nonprescription options meant to treat morning sickness in pregnant women.
Many women also find relief from acupressure wristbands like Sea-Bands, which you can either get in from a nearby drugstore or order from an online pharmacy.
Doctors also recommend pairing vitamin B6 with doxylamine, an over-the-counter antihistamine to ease nausea.
However, it is advised to consult with your doctor before buying them from a pharmacy.
